50 Eco Friendly and Sustainable Products at Target

I should probably get paid for this post. 😂 Target is my go to store for pretty much everything in my life. The ease of the drive up honestly has me swooning and coupled with the 2 day shipping means I do not have to leave my house. This is a win!

It also was no surprise when Target started to incorporate conscious and eco friendly products on their shelves. The world is slowly coming around to fully understand the damage we have done to our environment and are finding sustainable resources and materials that provide us better options to choose from. This is a change in the right direction that anyone can get behind….especially me.

Target has made it easy for us to have access to affordable eco friendly products.

They offers an array of non toxic products that are free of dyes, sulfates, phthalates, formaldehyde, SLS, petroleum, and even products with sustainable packaging that can truly be reused and recycled.

I have found kitchen appliances, clothing, clean beauty products, air fresheners, cleaning products and a bunch of other items that Target offers that I love and enjoy.

If you have come to this post, then you already know the importance of reducing the toxic consumption not only in our bodies but in our homes. However, in case you want to read up on why it is important that we read every label and reduce the consumption of toxic chemicals, click here to learn more. —> Why Go Clean?

Below I have categorized this list into sections:

  1. Clean Beauty

  2. Kitchen

  3. Cleaning Products

  4. Food

  5. Personal Care

  6. Clothing

  7. Shoes

Here are 50 Eco Friendly and Sustainable Products at Target

Clean Beauty Products at Target

Clean beauty is vital for our well being. When we look good, we feel good!

There is even a Clean Beauty at Target section. This is when a product is considered clean by Target standards, they stamp it as Clean which can also represent being cruelty free.

My only issue with this is that some of the products, by MY standards, still contains toxic ingredient such as dyes, preservatives, PEGS etc. Using this guideline from Target is a good start but my suggestion will always be, to read the label and do your own research. I am always here as a resource so if you are not sure, shoot me a message.

Here we go.

  1. Dr. Bronners Castile Soap

Many of the soaps on the market contains parabens, phthalates, SLS, PEGS and a host of other toxic ingredients.

Dr Bronners Castile Soap is a great option for soap and a staple for many. You can use this to make hand soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, dish soap, etc. I personally use this to make hand and body soap. A little goes a long way and this will last you a long time.

I love when makeup brands come through offering non toxic makeup options. Mented offers neutral tones that look amazing on melanated skin tones that you cannot get from most brands. Be sure to pick up this black owned makeup brand. You won’t be disappointed.

3. Alaffia

Another black owned brand that offers shampoos, body washes, conditioners, and deodorant to name a few. I personally have used the body wash and bubble bath for our family and we love them. The products are inexpensive and most importantly, toxic free.

This deep conditioner is heaven in a jar. It gives the right amount of moisture and protein for the hair and it always delivers. I have been using this for years and I use it on my kids hair as well.

Most hair gels and curl creams on the market include ingredients that can cause serious harm to our bodies and it is really hard to find one without them. This hair gel has great ingredients and definitely hold curls in place without the crunch. I use this on my hair and it leave my curls pop, pop popping! A little goes a long way and you get a lot in the jar.

When I say, I am never, ever going back to traditional toothpaste. This toothpaste leaves your teeth feeling so clean and refreshed. Most importantly, it uses a recyclable metal tube lined with Food Grade Non-BPA liner which reduces waste. According to the Davids website, 1.5 Billion toothpaste tubes end up in US landfills. We have to do better.

This is one of my favorite cleansers to use when I am double cleansing. I put it on my skin dry first, then massage it into my skin with wet hands and the gunk just melts off. It does the job of removing the day effortlessly. Fun Fact. Did you know that CocoKind uses sugarcane for their tubes that are 100% recyclable?

Another black owned brand by a woman on the scene, they offer toxic-free hair products ranging from shampoo, conditioner and even a leave in conditioner. This brand has been on my list of things to try. I am always looking to have a few brands to choose from and this seems like one to try. I mean, Issa Rae is a spokesperson for this brand. 💁🏽‍♀️

Keeping it going with the black owned business, this brand offers a clean and toxic free skincare line that has received great reviews from their constituents. While their man focus has been targeting people with acne, they also offer other skincare products that can work for anyone.

Before I get into the soap, let me just say that SheaMoisture offers so many clean options for beauty. They are affordable and you can find them basically anywhere. I know some may have issues with SheaMoisture but do a little bit of research and come to your own conclusion. Bottom line, they offer great products, mainly targeted to African American women. Most importantly, most of their product are toxic free which in the end, to me, is most important. I cannot say this enough, always read the label.

Ok, lets get into it.

I recently transitioned to using this soap and I love it! I am typically a body wash person but the single use plastic and the waste I was creating was heavy on my conscious. So we made the switch and so glad that we did. It leaves our skin clean but stripped of moisture. The bar is big with an amazing lather. This has become our go to soap.

This sunscreen is reef safe and environmental safe. Most importantly, this does not leave a white cast on your face. I think anyone can relate to that!

12. Cocokind Glow Essence with Sea Grape Caviar

CocoKind Glow Essence with Sea Grape Caviar.jpg

I love to use this as an extra boost of moisture to your face. The purpose of an essence is to hydrate, protect, and boost the overall health of skin. Can you tell that I love this brand? 😉

13. Bybi

I really really like this brand. They provide an array of skincare products that are exclude toxic ingredients and are formulated with all the good stuff. They even use sustainable packaging that is easy on our planet and our environment. I really like this product a lot. It exfoliates and provides clarity.

This is a hidden gem that I am not sure most understand. This is all natural 100% bentonite clay. It can deep cleanse and clarify skin and hair like nobodies business. A little goes a very long way and it does not include any dyes, fillers, etc. I love this stuff…and its plant based!

Non Toxic Kitchen Items at Target

Here are an array of tools, appliances and items that you would use on a day to day basis in our kitchen. Most of use

  1. Cast Iron from Teflon

You probably know that Teflon isn’t the best but you may not know why. In short, the chemicals and fumes that teflon releases above 500 degrees is toxic and can cause serious illnesses and diseases.

Read here to learn more on why Teflon should be avoided. Link Link

There are other options that are better such as ceramic, etc. but that still sometimes has a coating.

Stainless steel and A iron skillet are the best options for cookware. Why? They do not release toxins. Period.

What I said above.

This is a must have for any home. From rice, to chili, to chicken noodle soup, to masked potatoes, to broccoli, to cheesecake to chicken, to yams, to literally anything you can think of. This thing has been a huge time saver..and we all need efficiency right now. What I like the most about this is it has a stainless steel insert versus a teflon which other brands can have.

Most serving utensils are either plastic or metal with plastic tips. Easy. Switch to wood or food grade silicone. Plastic can release toxic chemicals at high temperatures and once you are done with them, they can’t be recycled.

Most colanders are plastic and take up way too much space. Switch to silicone colanders and preferably ones that can collapse. Last longer, recyclable, a healthier option.

6. Glass Food Storage Container with Wooden Lids

Glass Food Storage with Wood Lid.jpg

I am sounding like a broken record, but we gotta reduce the plastic that we use. Switching to glass food storage containers are a great and easy swap to make.

You already know. Make the switch to paper sandwich bags from plastic bags. I really like these, I use them to make the kids lunches.

Switching to bamboo is a great option for your everyday ceramic plates and especially for your plastic plates. Bamboo is durable but not breakable like glass and much better than plastic.

Non Toxic Cleaning Products at Target

This list was a tought one because most cleaning products are overflowing with toxic ingredients. It’s honestly hard to find one that works but isn’t killing our environment and our bodies. However, I was able to list a few cleaning products that work really well and aren’t harsh on our environment.

Note: I think there is a time and place for cleaners like bleach. I am not completely against using bleach because let’s be honest, when it comes down to it, vinegar is not gonna cut it. However, bleach should not be everyday use. There just isn’t a need for it every day.

Let’s get into it.

  1. Scotch Brite Greener Sponge

I have not use this yet but this is on my list to pick up. The material is Cellulose which has been deemed safe for you and the environment.

This detergent uses non toxic ingredients. Period.

This brand has an array of cleaning products from bathroom, to dish soap and laundry detergent. Simple and clean ingredients. I use the dish soap and I really like the cleaning abilities. This soap also leaves my skin soft and not dry and stripped of moisture.

Clean Eating Food Options at Target

I actually created a list of clean eating snacks that are great options to pick up. These all can be found at Target. Click here —> Healthy Store Bought Snacks for Kids, Clean Eating!

Here are a few other options listed below.

1.Rao’s

This is the only marinara sauce you will ever need. It taste so good! Most importantly, it is fresh and only uses tomatoes and real seasoning as ingredients. No preservatives, nothing! Buy this!

Partake cookies is a favorite amongst a lot of people that I know. They offer a variety of cookies from gluten free to vegan in tasty flavors. Swap these cookies for a sweet tooth that craves late at night. This brand is also black owned. Win.

This yogurt uses simple ingredients while using real fruit for coloring.

Sparkling water is a great option if you want flavor but do not want the calories. There are so many options out there to choose from but most of the sparkling waters will have “natural flavors”. By definition, natural means anything that comes from nature and used in its natural state. So for example, strawberry flavored sparkling water can use anything the manufacturing company feels is good enough to use to taste like strawberry and list it on the label as “natural flavors”. As long as it comes from nature. So think about it, if they used actual strawberries for flavor, wouldn’t they just say strawberries on the label? 💡

Spindrift offers a great option where they actually list ingredients in the water and you know what you are consuming.

Waterloo is another great option of knowing what are in the ingredients.

I love, love love these bars. The ingredients are simple, and they taste so good! I pack these for the kids school lunch.

Ill be honest, I am usually not a fan of veggie sticks but these are pretty good and the ingredient list is simple and use ingredients you can read and understand.

7. LaraBar

Larabars use very simple, clean ingredients. Most of their bars contain no more than 5 or 6 ingredients

These bars have some of the mot simple ingredients and they taste so good! I love these.

I mean, so I need to go there with this one? No hydrogenated oils, no added preservatives. Simple ingredients.

Most sauce contain preservatives that are a no no. This sauce only has vinegar, pepper, and salt.

The cows that are used to create this butter are grass feed cows.

11. Kix

Just 7 simple ingredients. No harmful preservatives, no toxic dyes or colorants.

I love these crackers. They use almond flour and very simple ingredients.

When I say this yogurt taste soooo good! We have been buying this over all other yogurts. It uses real fruit and comes in a glass jar which means this can be recycled. Reuse the glass jar or wash throughly and recycle.

Non Toxic Personal Care and Home Products

  1. Bamboo Toothbrush

Plastic toothbrushes cannot be recycled. Period. They end up in a landfill just sitting there, releasing harmful toxins into the air. Switch to a bamboo toothbrush. The materials can be broken down used for something else.

This deodorant is fairly new on the scene. It uses recycable paper and aluminum for its packaging while use all natural ingredients that are safe you us and the environment.

One caution, it has a “fragrance” listed in the ingredient list, but it doesn’t say much about that fragrance. Brands are not required to disclose what is used as a fragrance which raises a red flag for me. Fragrances can sometimes include harmful ingredients such as phthalates, which can be very dangerous to our nervous and reproductive system so just be mindful when of products that contain “fragrance” or “parfum”.

This floss uses vegan wax for the floss a bamboo for the holder which means…this is biodegradable and will breakdown without releasing harmful chemicals into our environment.

According to EWG, roughly 70% of products in the US contain a fragrance, including perfumes. What makes them toxic is that most of them include a chemical called Phthalates. Phthalates is preservative for fragrances but what they can do is cause harm to our reproductive system, cause cancer, lower sperm count, disrupt our hormones, and diabeties. Phthalates are banned in Europe and certain countries in Asia. That alone should tell you something ain’t right.

Look for fragrances and products that use 100% natural and possibly organic essential oils for fragrance.

These air fresheners use pure natural essential oils for a fragrance. They have a spray as well.

This brand offers natural and biodegradable option for feminine products for women. They range from pads, tampons, feminine wash, wipes, to even a menstrual cup and more. Ive used a number of these items and I love them. The biggest win, this is a black owned company by a woman. 🙌🏾 This is an easy swap from the standard big brands. They offer everything we need as a women.

These wipes only contain two ingredients, water and grapefruit extract. Thats it. Simple ingredients that you can trust and feel good about using on your little ones.

I love these diapers. They are made from sugarcane and softwood fibers which make them super soft and toxic-free.

I love this entire brand. They offer so many organic non toxic products for your skin that is also inexpensive. I personally use the vitamin C, moisturizing stick, and the rosewater and they both are amazing.

Most diaper creams use petroleum as a base which is a no no. This diaper cream only has seven ingredients and they are all safe and toxic free to use for baby.

I know my statement above probably blew away a lot of people. Yes, petroleum is bad. Click here to see why.

I mean how cute! These potty training pants are made out of organic cotton fiber and bamboo. That is it! No plastic, no polyester, no nothing! I just bought some of these to try with my 2 year old. We are in the process of potty training…y’all pray for me!

Early in my journey of switching to non toxic products, this was one of my very first purchases. They use non toxic ingredients and leave harmful ingredients such as formaldehyde, parabens, phthalate, and toluene just to name a few. It does not chip and the shine is amazing!

12. Golde

This brand provides a range of products from skincare to dietary supplements that provide overall healthy skin and body without using any fillers, dyes or harmful ingredients.

Clothing

Target Better Cotton Initiative

Recently Target’s brand, Wild Fable as well as other Target brands, have launched a clothing line that now uses Recycled Polyester. Here’s a blurb from Target’s website that talks about what this is:

“We designed this product using at least 20% recycled polyester (excluding trimmings, ornamentation, interlinings, and linings; see Material for full fiber content), a fabric that’s created by turning old plastic into new polyester fibers. Making products with recycled polyester helps prevent plastic waste from ending up in landfills – another way we’re committed to promoting sustainability.”

The “prevent plastic waste” got me! We all know that plastic does more harm than good for us and our planet. The emissions that are created to make plastic are toxic, the chemicals (fossil fuels) used to make plastic are toxic and often times, plastic cannot be recycled due the chemicals that were used to make it.

I have said this over and over, plastic is hard to avoid. It is everywhere and almost everything uses it. When you do use things in plastic, please try to reuse before you throw away to reduce waste and reduce waste in landfills.

Shoes

Another American made brand at Target, Okabashi, offers comfortable shoes for everyone, even kids! They are made form 100% recycled material.

Bonus

Disposable Aluminum Plastic Cups

I put this separate because honestly I am blown away.
There are aluminum disposable cups!🤯 This is a game changer. There are so many plastic cups thrown away at every function, event, cookout, gathering, you name it, a plastic red cup is involved. This will reduce the plastic waste by a ton! Can you tell I am excited? Please pick these up instead of the standard plastic disposable cup.

I really could go on and on. Target is light years ahead of a lot of retail stores that offer clean, safe, and non toxic products in store! I only listed 50 but Target has a huge range of products and food items to choose from. You just have to read the label 😉

Do you have any eco friendly products at Target that you love? Please share so I can add to the list!

With Love,

Mundi 🌱
